Frank Martin / Rien de Reede
Instrumentation: Flute and piano
Based on a fragment from his ballet ‘Das Märchen vom Aschenbrödel’ (The Fairy Tale of Cinderella), Frank Martin wrote a “Morceau de lecture” for the “Concours national d‘exécution musicale de Genève” in 1941 for the oboe. Without Frank Martin‘s knowledge, the oboist Heinz Holliger often performed this piece in public. This new arrangement for flute and piano follows the original exactly, except for one small change, enabling a better effect in the climax in the initial solo than in the version for oboe.
